During August 1945, Captain Edward H. Mikes, Jr. from Berwyn, Illinois was a fighter pilot in the U. S. Army Air Force flying the P-51D Mustang from Iwo Jima on Very Long Range (VLR) mission over Japan.
Yutaka Morioka

In August 1945, Lieutenant Yutaka Morioka was a 33 year old squadron leader flying the Zero fighter with 302 Air Group based at Atsugi Naval Base. Previously, he attended the Navy Academy at Etajima and was trained as as a dive-bomber pilot, then trained as a fighter pilot.
